Alabama NewsCenter — Auburn College’s Rural Studio wins prestigious nationwide design award for work in Alabama’s Black Belt : The Alabama Climate Weblog

Auburn College’s Rural Studio, an off-campus design-build program, has been chosen to obtain the distinguished Cooper Hewitt Nationwide Design Award within the Structure and Inside Design class.

This marks the primary time a tutorial program has gained a Cooper Hewitt award in that class. This system — a part of the Faculty of Structure, Design and Building’s Faculty of Structure, Planning and Panorama Structure — offers college students a hands-on instructional expertise whereas aiding an under-resourced inhabitants in west Alabama’s Black Belt area. Its core mission is the “schooling of our college students, coupled with analysis on sustainable, healthful rural dwelling by means of each housing and the very important techniques we foster to make sure our communities thrive.”

The Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum’s Nationwide Design Awards program honors innovation and affect and acknowledges the facility of design to alter the world. Launched in 2000 as an official challenge of the White Home Millennium Council, the awards characteristic 9 classes and search to extend nationwide consciousness of the affect of design by means of schooling initiatives.
