Sat 11 Mar 2023 07.00 AEDTThe BBC has determined to not broadcast an episode of Sir David Attenborough’s flagship new sequence on British wildlife due to fears its themes of the destruction of nature would danger a backlash from Tory politicians and the rightwing press, the Guardian has been informed.
The choice has angered the programme-makers and a few insiders on the BBC, who worry the company has bowed to stress from lobbying teams with “dinosaurian methods”.
The BBC strongly denied this was the case and insisted the episode in query was by no means meant for broadcast.

The accusation that conservatives and local weather skeptics would attempt to suppress an Attenborough programme is absurd. How might we entertain our readers by exposing the outlandishness of inexperienced concepts, if greens had been prevented from publishing these concepts?
The one time we’ve objected that I can recall, is to the unconstrained use of inexperienced propaganda movies as academic materials, presenting them to youngsters as unchallenged truth, when a lot of them comprise important errors.
